How You Can Help
There are many ways in which you can make a valuable contribution to the future of St Albans School.
You can make a donation.....
...as a lump-sum gift, or through regular instalments
Rather than making a single donation, many donors prefer to make more manageable donations on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. The tax benefits (see below) are identical in both cases. The extent to which modest donations can accumulate into significant sums can be striking - as illustrated in the table below.

... as a bequest in your will, or during your lifetime
Most donations, of course, come in the form of cash donations during the life of the donor. We are very grateful, however, to all those who leave a legacy to St Albans School through their wills. This can be remarkably tax-efficient. Click here for more information on The Gateway Society.
...tax-efficiently
Both donor and charity are able to benefit from tax relief. If you are a UK taxpayer, the School is able to claim Gift Aid, adding a further 28p to every £1 you donate. For higher-rate taxpayers, further tax relief can be claimed, reducing the cost of the gift by 25%. So every £100 that is donated can be worth £128 to St Albans, and need cost the donor just £75.
....through shares, goods or property
Donating shares, property or other goods to the School can gain additional tax benefits - further information and guidance can be obtained from the Development Office.
As a registered charity, the School is able to maximise all gifts from UK taxpayers through the Gift Aid scheme. Gift Aid also has benefits for donors who are higher rate taxpayers.

** Higher rate taxpayers can reclaim a further 20% on the value of their own donations in their annual tax return (based on the difference between the higher rate (40%) and lower rate (20%) of tax.

Your Gift
We are sincerely grateful for every donation we receive. We are frequently reminded that it is the accumulation of gifts of all sizes - large and more modest - that will enable us to fund our ambitious plans for the future. With the full cost of the Foundation being carried by the School, we can ensure that every penny that is given goes straight to supporting important projects.
All donors will become ‘Members' of the Foundation, and will be acknowledged in categories below. The cumulative total of a regular gift will be recognised, so, for instance, a gift of £66 per month (costing just £49.50 to a higher rate taxpayer) would qualify the donor as a Patron within 5 years, and a Fellow within 10 years. A wish for anonymity will of course be respected.
Member
Donations up to £4,999
We are delighted to recognise the generosity of all Members in our Annual Report during the years of their giving. It is the accumulated contributions of the many Members of the Foundation that will make large-scale projects possible. Members will be invited to attend School and Foundation events and receptions, and will be frequently updated on the progress of all projects.
Patron
Donations of £5,000 - £9,999
We are pleased to grant the title of Patron for a period of five years from the time of a donor's gift. According to their wishes, Patrons will be recognised in Foundation and School publications, and will be invited to attend all principal School and Foundation functions.
Fellow
Donations of £10,000 - £49,000
The title of ‘Fellow' will be granted to donors for life, to recognise the very significant contribution they have made to the future of St Albans School. In addition to all benefits enjoyed by Members and Patrons, Fellows will be invited to attend an annual dinner, and may be interested in a number of ‘naming opportunities' associated with specific projects.
Benefactor
Donations of £50,000 and above
Benefactors will enjoy special recognition for their generosity. In addition to the various benefits described above, the names of Benefactors will be inscribed on an honours board in the Library as recognition, in perpetuity, of their contribution to St Albans School.
