Sandhurst Honour for OA
William Blyth (OA 2004) was awarded the Sword of Honour at the 158th Sovereign's Parade at Sandhurst in December. He received the award from the Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Richard Dannatt KCB CBE MC ADC Gen, who represented Her Majesty The Queen. The Sword of Honour is awarded to the officer cadet considered by the Commandant to be the best of the course, and it was Junior Under Officer William Blyth, who has been commissioned into The Rifles, who stood out.
William was one of the outstanding cadets in the St Albans School CCF and went on after A levels to Nottingham University, reading Economics and Philosophy. As well as studying for his degree, he did a lot of work for charities. He drove from London to Mongolia to raise money for two charities, 'Mercy Corps' and 'Send a Cow', before running the London Marathon in 2007, raising money for 'Whizz Kidz'. William also organised the Normandy Coy Charity Ball, which raised over £12,000 for Help for Heroes.
