OA Rifle and Pistol Club

Introduction  The OARPC organises shooting and social events; the former normally taking place at the school range.  The club, which is open to men and women, was formed in 1902. Club members have maintained a high standard, including shooting as county representatives.

Objectives  To provide shooting facilities for those wishing to learn more about this fascinating sport.

Ranges  Most shooting is small bore (0.22) rifle but whenever possible, shooting at full bore takes place on approved ranges, usually Bisley (the ‘Mecca’ of the shooting world). Thanks to the kind co-operation of the school, all small bore shooting takes place at the school range.  Shooting takes place at 8 pm on most Monday evenings.

Cost  Trial members pay  a small ‘range fee’ until,  after suitable training, full membership is offered when an annual  fee becomes payable.

Equipment  The club has ‘club’ weapons. For a small fee (required by legislation) trial members are able to shoot under  supervision.

Competitions  Members are encouraged to join a team and may shoot in many of the individual shooting competitions available at club, county and national levels. Nearly all competitions are ‘postal’ so targets can be shot at the school range.

The Law  The club is an approved club affiliated to the NRA and the NSRA, with approval as a rifle club by the Home Office and Herts police. At the present time, hand weapons may not be used with the exception of air weapons at some ranges. All weapons, ammunition, targets etc are within the regulations as laid down. Only approved weapons are used. The club welcomes only genuine potential members and those with a proper interest in the sport. Others who do not share the same interests will not be offered trial or full membership.

Contacts  Anyone interested should contact a club official for further information.
